The longstanding world heavyweight champions of consumer spending – U.S. shoppers – appear ready to start pulling their punches. Consumer sentiment has taken a decidedly pessimistic turn, with bargain hunting and switching to private-label alternatives among the approaches consumers are increasingly embracing.

Although inflation has cooled, post-pandemic price increases have left consumers prioritizing stretching their food dollar. But while price is paramount, products that offer value – such as convenient time-saving meal solutions or a unique flavor experience that rivals restaurant offerings – can still fill a need.
