Zane Elliot
Age: 30
Company: WNA Engineering
Title: Associate, Plumbing/FP Team Manager
How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?
8 years
What drew you into the industry?
Thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluids all interested me in college, so the HVAC/Plumbing industry was a perfect fit.
What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?
The most rewarding aspect of this industry for me is seeing building systems come to life. It is especially rewarding when particularly complex designs operate as intended and exceed the owner’s expectations.
What motivates you every day?
The opportunity to work on unique projects and provide efficient solutions. Each day is full of new opportunities that are different from the previous day.
What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?
I wish more people understood the level of detail and coordination required to design building mechanical systems and the skill required to install them. It truly takes the entire team of architects, engineers and contractors working together to make it all happen.
What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?
The proudest moment of my career so far is successfully completing my first year as a team manager. Transitioning from being deep in design and calculations to managing people has been a challenging yet rewarding experience, especially for an “introvert engineer.”
What is one thing most people don’t know about you?
I think like an engineer in my personal life too. I enjoy figuring out how things work and will always try to build or fix them myself first.
