Title: Mechanical Engineer

How long have you been in the PHCP-PVF industry?

I have been in the industry for five years. Four years of full-time employment and one year in internships/co-ops.

What drew you into the industry?

I never knew I wanted to be in the consulting industry with a focus on plumbing. I stumbled across the industry while looking for an internship in college. I never knew this industry existed until the internship came up. As it turned out, I loved my internship! I loved working on all variations of projects, both big and small. In addition, the variation and change made every day different.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working in the industry?

The most rewarding aspect of working in the industry is seeing a complete project that meets the needs of the customer/owner. Each building has its own unique aspect and, in some way, that building will have an impact on society.

What motivates you every day?

What motivates me every day is knowing variation is around every corner. One day I could be collaborating with teammates on a new plumbing design, and the next day I could be working with contractors to solve an issue in the field.

What is one thing you wish more people knew/understood about the PHCP-PVF industry?

Designing plumbing for a new building is more than what people think. It is more than just the toilets or sinks that are used every day. Between the water, medical gas, waste pipes, etc. that goes into the plumbing design of a building, they each present their own challenges and unique aspects. There is not one size that fits all for the aspects of plumbing design.

What has been your proudest moment in your career so far?

My proudest moment in my career so far is seeing a project from start to finish. I especially enjoyed seeing how drawings were brought to life to create a beautiful building. It was especially rewarding to see a commercial building completed and knowing I was a part of something that will help the community. One project in particular was a new library for a nearby community. The plumbing was very minimal; however, to know I helped design a building where children can come and enjoy is very rewarding. I attended the grand opening of the library and seeing all the smiles from community members made me feel very proud.

What is one thing most people don’t know about you?

I love the beach! I try to make it to a beach at least once a year.
