Silicone Adhesive for Wearable Medical Devices

The 2484 3M™ Single Coated Medical Film Tape with Hi-Tack Silicone Adhesive on Liner is the latest addition to a new class of silicone adhesives that reportedly balances strength, flexibility, and comfort. 3M reports that the 2484 3M Hi-Tack Silicone Adhesive is breathable and conformable, and it enables up to a seven-day wear time and minimizes skin cell removal.


“In medical device design, patient safety is of the utmost importance, which is why we continue to focus on silicone adhesives and our Hi-Tack Silicone Adhesive Portfolio,” said Chad Reed, global business director of 3M Medical Device Solutions.

Compostable Adhesives for Flexible Packaging

Two new compostable adhesive solutions under the Flextra™ Evolution brand reportedly offer differentiated advantages in terms of sustainability goals and manufacturer benefits. According to H.B. Fuller, Flextra Evolution SF1000CP/XR2000CP is a 2K solventless adhesive that offers design benefits such as outstanding sound dampening and excellent adhesion to a variety of biodegradable film substrates, from bar wrap to snack packaging and more.


Flextra Evolution WB1200CP/XR2200CP is a water-based two-part system that works best with paper-to-film laminations. Fully compostable according to EN13432 and ASTM D6400, it is certified through the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI).

The Seal-Fast® Liqui-Flash polyurethane roofing sealant reportedly seals complex details quickly and permanently. The company reports that the product is easy to use and provides excellent adhesion, elongation, and tensile strength, offering a versatile maintenance and repair solution.


The one-component, 100% solids, non-shrink, polyurethane sealant can be used in typical and difficult-to-access applications, including flashings, skylights, pitch pockets (filling and sealing), inlaid gutters, air conditioners, brick ties, roof vents, penetrations, ductwork, roof hatches, chimneys, and seams. It is compatible with a wide range of substrates, such as metal, polyurethane foam, aged smooth asphalt, aged modified bitumen, aged PVC, and aged EPDM.

Low-Outgassing Epoxy


Master Bond Supreme 70CN is a two-part epoxy adhesive formulated using a natural, renewable, and sustainable ingredient. The company reports that the moderate-viscosity, unfilled epoxy is black in color and can be utilized for bonding, sealing, coating, and potting. As a toughened system, it resists thermal cycling and is ideal for bonding dissimilar substrates.


“As part of Master Bond’s sustainability drive, this product offers the advantage of lowering the carbon footprint. At the same time, it does not compromise performance and features a high tensile strength of over 10,000 psi and a glass transition temperature of 125-130°C,” said Rohit Ramnath, senior product engineer.

According to Charles Ross & Son Co., its triple-shaft mixers are easily adapted to suit a variety of challenging viscous applications requiring hygienic and sanitary handling. Powder wet-out and dispersion, temperature control, emulsification, homogenization, and degassing are accomplished in one vessel to produce creams, gels, and pastes in a highly repeatable and clean mixing process.


Featuring electro-polished and passivated product contact surfaces, the pictured VersaMix is designed for full vacuum operation, as well as internal pressure up to 5 psig to accommodate nitrogen blanketing. The company reports that this model has an ASME-stamped mixing vessel supplied with a matching platen-style discharge system.
